The success of each BCLL season depends on the commitment of volunteers and parents. While there are a variety of positions available depending on experiences and availability, the hope is that each parent or guardian will participate in the league and enhance the experience of every player. During the registration process, each parent will have the opportunity to select one of the following roles:
Head Coach
The head coach or manager is the individual responsible for each team. Previous coaching experience is not mandatory, and BCLL will provide resources to help new managers. On average, BCLL needs 4-6 new head coaches each season to ensure there are enough teams at each level. Head coaches can expect to lead two practices per week during the preseason, one on the weekends and one during the week. During the season, there is usually two games per week and one practice, depending on field availability. Interested parties can contact coaching coordinator Brett Dippolito for further details (see "Our Staff" page). Head coaches are ultimately selected by the Board of Directors. Head coaches then have the opportunity to serve as managers of BCLL's All Star teams each summer. All Star coaches will ultimately be voted upon by the Board of Directors.
Assistant Coaches
Assistant coaches assist the head coach and can be expected to perform a variety of roles during practices and games, including serving as base coaches and leading individual drills. Previous experience is not required. On average, there can be 2-4 assistant coaches per team.
Team Parent
The team parent helps the head coach/manager. Possible responsibilities include communicating with parents, organizing post-game snack schedules, and ensuring teams have coverage in the concession stand when the team is the away team on Field 3.
Additional assistance with the following tasks will be asked of all BCLL membership:
Scorekeeper
The home team is responsible for keeping the official score book at each game. Managers are available to provide instruction if training is required. Score can be kept in the score book or using the GameChanger app on your phone. Managers will decide which one they prefer.
Trash Maintenance
Both teams are responsible for cleaning their respective dugouts, bleachers and fence lines. All areas should be free of trash following each game.
Concession Stand
The visiting team playing on Field 3 is responsible for working the concession stand behind Field 3. The league's concession stand manager will prepare and stock the stand and parent volunteers are responsible for selling items.
BCLL Ambassadors Program
The Bull City Ambassador program is an opportunity for former players to still contribute to the league through various volunteering roles. Click on the BCLL Ambassadors tab under the About Us section to access links to read more about the program.
All volunteers are subject to a background check which will be completed during the registration process of each season.
