BCLL's 7/8 team advances to state title game
One day after a thrilling 9-8 victory over Weddington in the state semifinals, Bull City LL's 7/8 team will face South Durham on Monday night for the state championship. The title game will begin at 6 pm at Southern Bank Stadium. Fans can follow along on the iScore app.
BCLL led 5-0 on Sunday heading into the final inning of the semifinals, maintaining the momentum from a positive tournament run that had seen Lee Land's only allow four runs in the tournament until that point. But Weddington scored eight times to go ahead 8-5.
BCLL started the comeback when Baez Sharpley-Truong singled home Braxton Hughes to make the score 8-6. Miles Derby then had a two-run double to score Sharpley-Truong and Mason Mraz and tie the game at 8. Liam Dippolito then won the game with a walk-off double up the middle, scoring Evan Fox, who had run for Derby.
With the victory, BCLL is now 9-1 in tournament play.
BCLL will be attempting to win its first state championship since the 11/12 team won in 2016.
