BCLL's 9/10/11 team wins District 6 title
WILSON -- BCLL's 9/10/11 team won the District 6 championship on Wednesday night with a 1-0 victory over Wilson.
It is BCLL's first district championship since 2016, when the 11/12 team won state and the 10/11 won districts.
It was a dominating defensive performance for BCLL. Gavin Cook needed only 53 pitches to post the complete game shutout. He had zero walks and only allowed three hits. Cook retired the final 10 Wilson batters he faced in order, and BCLL's defense committed zero errors.
BCLL scored the game's only run in the first. Ethan Greene and JP Rodio led off with walks. After Greene took third on a botched pickoff attempt by Wilson, Philip Daly scored Greene with a groundout.
Daly had BCLL's lone hit.
BCLL won five straight games after dropping its opener to SDLL 7-6 on Friday. The final two were one-run wins over Wilson. BCLL defeated SDLL 4-2 on Sunday behind a strong pitching performance by Cameron Harper.
BCLL advances to the state tournament in Greenville, where it will open play next Thursday at 10 am.
