Pirates, Tigers, Phillies, Reds, Nationals, Lady Devils, Huskies among BCLL spring champs

Bull City concluded its spring season Saturday with championship games across divisions.

In Majors, the Pirates completed a dominant regular season by defeating the Indians 17-7. Jess McKnight’s team only lost once and outscored opponents by more than 100 runs.

The top-seeded Tigers emerged from a balanced National division, claiming both the regular and tournament championships. In the championship, the Tigers defeated the Astros 10-3.

The Phillies were the class of the American division, defeating the Diamondbacks 15-8 in the championship game. The Phillies went 9-2-1 in the regular season to earn the top seed in the tournament.

The Reds were the International division champions for BCLL’s upper machine pitch division, defeating the Twins on Saturday for the title. The International division was competitive all season, with the Reds, Rockies and Royals all vying for control. Reggie Oakley’s team gained the upper hand in the tournament.

Those four teams (Pirates, Tigers, Phillies and Reds) will be BCLL’s representatives in the Mayor’s Cup, which will be played against South Durham on June 10-11 at Herndon Park.

The day’s closest baseball game was in the Pacific division, which is BCLL’s lower machine pitch. The Orioles had a strong regular season and were the top seed; however, the Nationals surged in the tournament and emerged with a 10-8 win to claim the title.

In Majors softball, the Lady Devils held on for an exciting 9-8 over the Charge in another one of the day’s most exciting games. Todd Spell’s team only lost once during the season.

In Minors softball, the second-seeded Huskies took down the top-seeded Knockouts to earn the title.

The Rookie championship will be held Sunday afternoon after rain washed out one of the semifinals. The Giants are the top seed there.

Congrats to all of BCLL’s teams on a fantastic season!
